Are you ready for winter?

This time of year can be stressful for all of us as we go from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and in to the New Year. Your automobile needs a coolant check to be sure it can withstand the cold weather and you certainly should check its tires to be sure they still have enough tread to properly grip the road during icy conditions. It is also recommended that you carry a flashlight with fresh batteries, a blanket, and jumper cables. All of these items and procedures could come in very handy in the event you are stranded during a storm.

Your home can also suffer during cold weather. It is always recommended that you have a full checkup on your heating and cooling systems. You should be sure all exposed pipes are covered and sprinkler systems drained. Most people heed the freeze warning from the television weather people and cover their plants. When rain turns to ice and the walk to the front door becomes unsafe, be sure to think about your guests and put sand over the ice or a non-slip mat. Thieves know at this time of year they will likely be successful because people’s cars as well as homes contain valuable gifts. You should try to always put shopping packages in the trunk of your car and be careful of what can be viewed in your home from outside. It is also a good idea to breakdown boxes and place them in the trash so newly purchased items are not available for criminals to see.

Above all, always try to take time to use some commonsense in regard to the handling of your daily activities. You will enjoy your holidays much more if you don’t have to deal with any misfortune.
