Prepping Your Home for Fall

All houses require maintenance, and the arrival of fall is a perfect time to prep your home. You can ensure your home is ready for the changing seasons—inside and out—by prepping your home for the change of seasons, which may include taking care of maintenance issues now or hiring professionals for more advanced projects. Indoor Fall Home Maintenance  
Keep the inside of your home clean and cozy with these fall prep suggestions: 

• Furnace filters. Have your furnace inspected and replace its furnace filters.
• Insulation. Check your attic and crawl spaces to ensure they’re adequately insulated. Fill in areas that don’t have proper coverage.
• Safety equipment. Ensure that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working correctly, any first aid kits are stocked, and fire extinguishers are functional. Fall is an excellent time to replace your batteries.
• Windows. Make your home less drafty inside by replacing your window screens with storm windows. 

• Equipment. Prep your lawn equipment for spring by draining the gas. If kept inside stored equipment, gas can be damaging.
• Gutters and downspouts. Clear leaves and debris to prevent flooding and freezing around your foundation.
• Lawn. Take time now to prepare your lawn for spring by aerating your lawn, raking leaves and, if necessary, fertilizing your grass.
• Roof. Check your roof for loose, damaged or missing shingles. You should also check your chimney for any blockages, nests or critters.
