In September of 1959 after leaving active duty with the Army, Ed entered the property/casualty insurance industry with the Insurance Company North America. In 1964 he entered the Independent Agency side of the business.
During his career he served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Austin and at various times, was chairman of several committees for the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas. In 1990, he was awarded the first Distinguished Service Award presented by the Independent Insurance Agents of Austin. In 2011, he received the Al Johnston award for efforts to promote insurance education by the Central Texas Chapter of C.P.C.U.
In 1997 he was instrumental in helping form the Combined Agents of America (CAA) which is now a large association of Independent Agents in Texas, he served as its first Chairman.
His insurance industry professional designations are: Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
He is still active in Ed Weeren Insurance Agency, Inc., serving as Chairman. His daughter, Kelli Stanford is President of the agency. During his insurance career he was also Director and stockholder of a bank in Austin which was sold to Wells Fargo a few years ago.
In 1959 Ed and his wife Carolyn married and had two girls who are now both married. Each of their daughters have two children. He has been involved with various civic and fraternal organizations and along with Carolyn, the family has also been very active in our church. The Weeren’s also own a mini storage and rental property along with ranch land which Ed manages. He usually spend part of each week at the family home in the country near La Grange. He also hunts at their ranch and has a target range. He enjoys fishing and taking his son-in-laws to Canada every year to fish. The family also has season tickets and attends every A&M home football game.
